"One day when you wake up, you will find that you have become a forest. You have grown roots and found strength in them that no one knew you had. You have become stronger and more beautiful, full of life giving qualities. You have learned to take all the negativity around you and turn it into oxygen for easy breathing. A variety of beautiful birds rests inside your mind and you call them memories. You have become an increasingly self sustaining thing of epic proportion. You should be so proud of yourself and how far you have come, from the seeds of who you used to be." | Nakita Gill - you have become a forest

I paused in front of my parents dresser and let my eyes drift across the wood shelves to the various photos framed here and there.  Amoungst the books and sentimental items they land on an old black and white image of my grandmother. Her hair styled just so. Her eyes soft and shining. It's the kind of photo that most all of us have seen from the past.  Then it struck me. It's one that most of my generation won't have to pass down to their children. I'm quite certain in 80 years I would be less than excited to see my facebook "selfie" on my daughter's shelves for my grandchildren to gaze upon. This thought has been perched on the edge of my brain. An idea waiting to swoop down and take shape....

About two weeks later Annie asked me about a beauty session. Something for her to remember this time in her life. During her session she said, " I'm finally going to have a nice photo of myself to give to my sons." This rooted in my heart. It was exactly what I wanted her to have. An experience that was as lovely as she, and a photo that she could cherish. You see, photographing women has become a passion of mine over the years. It has blossomed into so much more than I thought it would be when I began. It has become a mission to spark joy and self love in women's hearts. Laughter during their sessions is something that just happens naturally. I adore that magic more than all the rest. The carefully constructed poses fall away and her unique body language shines through. There is nothing more beautiful than a joyful heart.

After posting a few images on Instagram, that idea that had been waiting took shape in the form of a what will be a personal photography project. A black and white women's portrait series. A series that takes time for women to celebrate who they are. I'm not sure I have all the details worked out but like anything that starts out small, I'm sure this idea will grow upon itself. I only know it is what my heart is guiding me to do. I can't wait to see where it goes....
