Boogers, Bath time and my Boy

Boogers, Bath time and my Boy

My lil' man turns into a WILD man in the tub. It's his favorite time of the day. His laughter and joy at such a simple thing reminds me to also enjoy the small things in life. Reminds me to put down my phone and be present in the moment. As well as when the moment is right to pick up my camera >NOT< my phone and capture those memories. Maybe someday he'll be embarrassed. Maybe someday he'll love that I took the time to take these images. Even if he doesn't his future wife will! I adore the photos my mother-in-law gave me of my husband as a baby! I look at them and see how much our kids look like him.

This year is proving to be my busiest most successful year in business. I never want to be so busy that I forget to notice the tiny moments that mean so much to my children. Someone once told me "Listen and watch the little things when they are young and they will come to you with the big things when they are older."

I'll be here when that time comes. Heart and ears open. But for now, I'll enjoy the fact that most likely in just a few short hours he'll be covered in boogers, his dinner, or dirt from playing outside. Back in the tub he'll go and I'll be face to face with that beautiful baby boy gap toothed smile.

One of the best parts about being a wedding photographer is getting to see my brides and groom's families grow. Watching their life's change in such an amazing way. It's beautiful.

It's been over 2 years since I had the honor of photographing Sabrina and Andrew's wedding in Flagstaff, AZ. Their daughter, Anabelle, was only two months old then. Now she's two years old and FULL of personality. She's still pretty unsure of her brother, but I have no doubt that before long she will realize just how fun he is! Maybe even make the connection that he is like a real life baby doll! It's just a matter of time before she adorns him with her Elsa's crown or covers him in stickers (or in the case of my little guy his sisters added "friends" to his tummy time).

Theodore's teddy bear room couldn't have been more fitting. How clever are they with that theme?! He loved to snuggle with his Teddy. It was adorable! <3 Congratulations Sabrina and Andrew. He's perfect and I am so happy for you!

World, meet sweet Alivia. Six weeks new and perfect in every way.

I can't describe what an honor it is to be welcomed into the home of a family with a newborn. I walk into a new fresh time in a parents life. A time when every thing their precious baby does is brand new and fascinating. I remember what that was like with my own children. I could look at their tiny features for the longest time and never get bored of them... now I get to capture that for other parents who understand that exact feeling so completely.

New Year's Eve Snow

New Year's Eve Snow

Any measurable amount of snow in Chino Valley, Arizona is cause for excitement as far as my kids are concerned. Imagine their little faces when they woke up and looked outside on New Years Eve and saw a blanket of white.

After bundling my babies up I grabbed my camera and headed outside. Once we were out back I snapped away. Loved watching my kids giddy with excitement.  My middle child, Alexis, preferred not to wear the scarf. Apparently life is better with snow in your hair.  <3 This was Philip's first time in the snow. He LOVED it! He would crack up when daddy would throw snowballs at him. But I think my favorite moment of the day happened while watching my oldest daughter. She stopped, closed her eyes, smiled and enjoyed the feeling of the big fat snowflakes kissing her cheeks. In that moment I realized I need to do that more. Pause and enjoy the moment the way we do when we are children.

I plan to do that more in 2015. I will live courageously in the moment.

My little man.

My little man.

Where does the time go? If you figure it out let me know...MmmK? I was sitting here this morning watching my little man eating Cheerios and it hit me. In just a few more months he'll be one year old. One complete trip around the sun.

He's so much fun. The happiest baby I think I have ever seen. All I need do is smile at him and his whole face smiles. Curious. He is curious and determined as the day is long. He adores his daddy and wants so badly to be a big kid like his older sisters.

Before he was born I impulsively bought a small wooden toy camera off Etsy (you can find it here: wooden camera toy)  I mean how could I resit right? When he plays with it I like to think of him as mama's little assistant. So today I scooped him and the toy camera up, plopped him on my bed and spent a few minutes taking pictures. Oh my heart.

Ten tiny fingers. Ten tiny toes. Perfect squishy soft newborn cheeks. Photographing sweet Titus was bliss. Just as much was seeing the love in his parents eyes for him. The way this one tiny person has not only become their entire world but how he has filled it up.

This is why I enjoy lifestyle session for newborns. Babies are born and mothers and father are made. Lifestyle photography sessions celebrate those new moments...the way they gently stroked his skin and layered kisses on his forehead.  It goes by in the blink of an eye. I am so honored I was able to savor a little piece of that for Rachel and Kyle.
