First Looks vs Keeping with Tradition

First Looks vs Keeping with Tradition

One of the questions I get asked most often when helping to plan the wedding day timeline is, "Should I do a first look?" The answer, I believe, is 100% up to you! It is a personal decision, which usually varies from couple to couple. I have photographed weddings where the couple has chosen a first look and others where they have not. Both are successful. Both are meaningful and both have their advantages. If you are stuck somewhere in between and unsure which might be a better fit for you, fear not. I'm going to chat more about it below.

Choosing your wedding photographer

Choosing your wedding photographer

I can't imagine what it is like for new brides today. You are faced by so many choices while planning a wedding. With websites and apps like Pinterest at your disposal you have every idea imaginable at your fingertips! How do you even begin to choose? I've thought about this because I am one of those choices.  Browse a few wedding sites and you will read that selecting a great photographer is one of the most important decisions for your wedding day.  So how do you choose...

The gals of Studio 12

Tomorrow I will take part in Studio 12's first workshop. It's the coming together of the three of us with a few other photographers looking to jump start their photography businesses. Photography is an industry that quite frankly "eats it's young." It is fiercely competitive. We want to make a change. Community over competition!! But let me back up a minute....

I know what it is like to be on both sides of that struggle.

I remember being that eager new person trying to break in (sometimes I still feel that way... and that is OK). At first I longed for somebody to answer my questions and just point me in the right direction. I would put myself out there to find doors slammed in my face. That is frustrating.

I know what it is like to have busted my booty to finally achieve some success. To feel myself getting closer to my goals and even see some of those goals checked off my list. Now at times I feel that mama bear instinct to protect what I have worked so hard to build. I can look back and understand why many of those people were unwilling to help me. But if you are not careful it can close off your heart.

There is a beauty and a strength in community. It's a place to seek guidance and a place to celebrate success with people who "get it" because they have been there too. Celebrate each others success with out questioning your own. It is powerful and contagious....

Please tell me what to wear! Color guide.

One of the first questions I get asked after booking a session is "What should I wear?" I always suggest you wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident. Be YOU! My focus is on your personalities and love for one another. Your relationship. That being said I can completely understand needing some inspiration. I recently planned outfits for my family of five and it was quite the task! We started with our son's shirt and pulled in colors from it for the rest of us. Having a piece I really liked helped work as a good foundation. It gave me something to build off of. Here is a fun color inspired guide to help you look great without being "matchy-matchy." You'll noticed the color theme is used through out the pairs of clothing, in various tones. Darks and lights. In shoes and as accents. Gone are the days of everyone wear a white shirts and blue jeans...let's hope they stay gone!!
